Rantoul man facing cannabis charge

URBANA — A Rantoul man who allegedly had cannabis he intended to sell has been criminally charged with that offense.

Antione Ingram, 29, who listed an address in the 600 block of Heath Drive, was arrested Wednesday night in Rantoul with about 4 ounces (125 grams) of suspected cannabis on him.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said a patrol officer saw a car allegedly run a stop sign and stopped it in the 1600 block of Short Street.

Ingram was a passenger in the car, which also had open alcohol in it.

The officer shone a light in the car and saw a plastic bag sticking out of Ingram's pants pocket which contained the cannabis, Beach said.

Because the arrest happened not far from Pleasant Acres Elementary School, that makes it a more serious felony.

If convicted of possession with intent to deliver cannabis, Ingram faces penalties ranging from probation to three to seven years in prison.

Ingram's bond was set at $10,000. He was told to be back in court May 7.
