Residents to discuss Champaign school site ideas

CHAMPAIGN — Several Champaign residents are hosting a grass-roots, interactive workshop to talk about their ideas for where the school district should put a new Central High School.

It's scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Sunday in the Foundation Room, Room 222, of the Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St., C.

The workshop is sponsored by the friends of Chuck Jackson, who is running for Champaign school board. The public is invited to attend.

It will expand on work already done when the school district hired educational facilities planning committee DeJong-Richter.

That company has been leading the district and community through a future facilities process that started late last year and has continued this spring.

For more information, contact Charles Schultz at or visit his blog post about the workshop at

There will be two more workshops this spring, Schultz said.

Dates for those have not yet been set.

Great idea. Should have been done by the consultant hired by Unit 4 and is being paid a tidy sum of money to produce another report. I encourage the many residents whose property taxes support Unit 4 to participate, explore various ideas, brain storm, think creatively.
