Teen charged with Urbana break-in

URBANA — A 15-year-old Champaign youth was charged Thursday with residential burglary after allegedly breaking into a home in east Urbana on Wednesday.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Coile said a 36-year-old woman arrived home about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to see a young man walking down Scottswood Drive carrying a flat-screen television.

The woman got to her home in the 2400 block of East Elm Street and found her 3-week-old 42-inch flat-screen TV gone. A bathroom window and the kitchen door were also found open.

The woman immediately called 911. Deputies located the boy in the 200 block of Dodson Drive, where they arrested him.

Coile said the youth admitted stealing the television, saying he needed money to buy clothes.

He was charged with residential burglary in a juvenile delinquency petition filed Thursday.
