3 sought in theft of laptop, textbook at UI Undergraduate Library

URBANA — The University of Illinois Police Department needs help identifying three men involved in the theft of a laptop and textbook from the University of Illinois Undergraduate Library.

The victim told police that about 11:35 p.m. March 7, he left his backpack unattended near a table in the study area of the lower level of the library while he went outside to smoke. When he returned, his laptop, charger and a soft-cover textbook had been stolen from his backpack.

Surveillance video showed three men seen exchanging possession of the laptop, charger and textbook. At one point, one of the suspects looked at the surveillance cameras and then put his sweatshirt hood up in an attempt to conceal his identity, while holding on to the stolen items.

The suspects are described as a college-aged white male with dark, clean-cut hair who was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes; a college-aged white male with dark hair who was wearing a black hat, black button-down shirt, black pants and black shoes; and a college-aged black male who was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes.

If you have any information regarding the identities or locations of the suspects, please contact the UI Police Department at 333-1216 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.

Information can also be sent anonymously online at www. 373tips.com or by cellphone text message by sending CCTIP plus the information to CRIMES (274637).

Crimestoppers will pay a reward if the information leads an arrest. Cash rewards are also paid for information on other felony crimes or fugitives in the Champaign County area.

From the "quality" of these photos, it appears that the Undergrad Library gets its surveillance equipment from the same place as most of the city's banks.

Must be some special victim to have a newspaper article for a pawltry laptop, book and charger. Hey UIUC you have a lot of money and a ton of smart students, why wouldnt it be a good idea to lock up your facilties and have students swipe cards to get in? That would be some sort of deterent instead of your fischer price security cams, they have this new fangled technology called High Definition, if you need a setup Harbor Freight has them on sale.. *smh*
