Oakwood considering water system update

OAKWOOD —Trustees say they have several options for updating the village's water system.

The village board held a special informational meeting last month, to learn about options and reported this week that there are several options.

They could update to a microfiber filtration system; lay a water main 3 to 4 miles and connect with Aqua Illinois to purchase its water; pursue research into digging wells; or Aqua Illinois is interested in purchasing the system from Oakwood. Trustees will weigh the options before making a decision.

Concerning the water main project, trustees have heard back from CSX Corp. that it will cost the village $10,800 to run the water main under the railway track. That section of track is not being used.

In other business, trustees also:

— Discussed the potential of charging people for renting the park pavilion and building, but could not reach an agreement.

— Set cleanup day for June 8, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

— Approved an ordinance prohibiting parking on Sailor Street between Olmstead Street and Scott Street, because parking there obstructs traffic. Parking fines will be $50.

— Announced that the annual Oakwood Grade School 5K walk/run will be held on May 25 at 8 a.m.

— Announced that the villagewide rummage sales will be held May 18.
