Resident asks Villa Grove to OK chickens

VILLA GROVE — Resident Terry Green has requested that the city council consider repealing or modifying the ordinance prohibiting farm animals within city limits.

Green specifically wants to raise chickens at his home. He said he has had no trouble gathering signatures for a petition in support of his proposal.

"There are animals kept in this town. It would be nice to work this out amicably," he told the council.

The council agreed to put the issue on its agenda, but Alderman Bob Stipp said it was not something that would happen quickly.

"A lot of limitations would have to be put in it," Stipp said.

Mayor Thelma "Boots" Blaney expressed her opposition to the proposal but agreed to put it on the agenda for discussion at a later meeting.
