Probation follows plea for possession of stolen vehicle

URBANA — A Champaign teen who admitted his role in the theft of a vehicle last year has been sentenced to two years of probation,

Trenton M. Jones, 19, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Stratford Drive, pleaded guilty Thursday before Champaign County Judge Harry Clem to possession of a stolen vehicle, admitting that on Dec. 13, he was in a 2002 Ford Explorer that had been stolen from a west Champaign business earlier that day.

Jones and co-defendants Dehari Banks, 18, of Urbana, and Clarence Faust, 18, of Champaign were in the stolen SUV when Urbana police stopped it in the 500 block of East Beardsley Avenue.

Banks is due back in court April 22, while Faust has a May 9 court appearance scheduled.

Jones was also fined $350. A separate misdemeanor case charging him with domestic battery, aggravated assault and resisting a peace officer was dismissed in return for his plea to the felony.
