Danville homicide under investigation

DANVILLE – Danville police are investigating an early morning shooting that left a 26-year-old Danville man dead.

Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said police were called to a home in the 1500 block of East Fairchild Street around 5 a.m. Saturday.

“There was some kind of gathering at the home and people were beginning to leave when a single shot was heard outside,” Thomason said. “The victim was found lying on the ground.”

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson identified the man as Jamaal Sampson, who was pronounced dead at the Presence United Samaritans Medical Center emergency room at 5:55 a.m.

An autopsy done Saturday afternoon showed that Mr. Sampson died of a single gun shot wound, Johnson said.

Thomason said no arrests have been made and police are continuing to interview other people who were at the home.

Anyone with information is asked to call Danville police at 431-2250 or Crimestoppers at 446-8477.
