Police monitor Edison after social media post; no threat

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police were on hand at Edison Middle School on Monday morning after a student made statements on social media this weekend that alarmed parents.

The parents contacted the police, said Champaign schools spokeswoman Stephanie Stuart, and police officers came to the school in the morning to make sure everything went smoothly.

Stuart said there was no immediate threat to students and the school was not locked down.

"At this time, the issue is resolved, but we're going to keep working with (police) to ... keep an eye on what's happening there," Stuart said.
