Truck driver ticketed in wreck at I-57/72

CHAMPAIGN — An Assumption man was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions following a single-vehicle accident Tuesday on Interstate 72 west of Champaign that slowed traffic during the evening rush hour.

According to a state police report, Dale L. Gillaspie, 41, who listed an address in Assumption, was driving a semitrailer south on Interstate 57 and merging onto Interstate 72 headed west when he lost control of his vehicle at 5:32 p.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle jackknifed and went into the median before it tipped onto the driver's side, causing the trailer to split open. The contents of the trailer, a load of bricks, then spilled into the median.

Police said traffic was diverted to the shoulder of the highway until the accident scene was cleared.

Gillaspie refused medical treatment.

He was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions.
