Reward offered in cemetery vandalism

TUSCOLA — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information about the vandalism of headstones at the Tuscola Township Cemetery earlier this month.

According to a Tuscola police report, one or more people toppled fewer than 20 headstones at the cemetery, located at U.S. 36 and South Prairie Street, during the evening hours of April 2.

Then, during the evening of April 6, another 40 headstones were knocked over.

In addition to the damage to the headstones, some statues and ceramic vases were also vandalized, according to the report.

Douglas County Chief Deputy Peter Buckley said an anonymous donor has provided $5,000 for a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the damage.

Anyone with information related to the vandalism is asked to call Douglas County Crimestoppers 800-280-8316.

Callers do not have to give their names.
