Man treated after attack by group

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man had to be treated at a hospital Thursday after he was attacked by a group of men wielding a baseball bat.

Champaign police Sgt. Dennis Baltzell said the attack reportedly happened about 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive.

Baltzell said officers learned that the man knew his attackers. They had all been in an apartment there together and got into an altercation over the theft of cash. The exact number involved in the attack was unclear, Baltzell said.

"He got hit in the face with the handle of a bat several times. He also got hit on one of his shins," Baltzell said.

The man was taken by ambulance to Presence Covenant Medical Center for treatment.

No arrests were made.
