Run at Meadowbrook will show support for Boston

URBANA — Local runners are getting together Saturday afternoon in honor and memory of those affected by the bombing at the Boston Marathon and subsequent tragedies.

An informal run is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana.

The goal is to run a 5k, said Mike Stemle Jr., who has put the event together, but those who attend can run as much as they'd like.

Stemle said he started thinking about such an event after hearing about a friend's running club in another state planning to run Saturday in honor of Boston. He put together the idea with some of his coworkers and with the Second Wind Running Club.

Stemle said the run will begin with someone talking about the events in Boston, and runners will be asked to think about Boston and show their support for the people in that city.

Stemle said runners around the country and world will run Saturday, and those interested can learn more about it by searching #runforBoston on Twitter.

"We're hoping that this adds to the noise that lets the folks in Boston know they have (support) behind them," Stemle said.
