It's Your Business: Savoy IMAX debuts May 3

If folks fault you for not seeing the big picture, you'll soon have a chance to redeem yourself.

Goodrich Quality Theatres will debut its new IMAX theater at the Savoy 16 on May 3, with "Iron Man 3: An IMAX 3-D Experience."

The IMAX auditorium will seat 500 people in front of a screen 80 feet wide and nearly 50 feet tall.

The Savoy 16 has been undergoing remodeling since November and has already opened its new box office and concession stands.

The refurbished complex will also have meeting rooms for private parties or birthdays.

If that doesn't shake you up, perhaps this will:

The theater will also have an auditorium with "D-BOX motion-effects seats that move side to side, forwards and backwards and up and down," according to Goodrich.

Guess you better not eat too much popcorn or chug too many soft drinks before sitting down!

The summer slate of IMAX 3-D movies coming to the Savoy 16 include: "Star Trek: Into Darkness," "Man of Steel," "Pacific Rim" and "300: Rise of an Empire."

Another day, another Dollar ...

In January, we reported Dollar General was looking at opening a store on Prairieview Road in Mahomet, but was still doing due-diligence.

Now the company confirms it's coming.

Company spokesman Dan MacDonald says the new store at 504 S. Prairieview Road is scheduled to open in late summer. It will be 7,300 square feet and employ six to 10 people, he said.

McDonald said customers of Dollar General stores usually live within 3 to 5 miles of the store.

Demographic trends, traffic patterns and competitive factors all come into play in determining where Dollar General builds, he said.

Kane & Company expands

Paul and Lynn Kane report that their downtown Champaign salon, Kane & Company, has expanded.

The salon, at 41 E. University Ave., C, has added 1,400 square feet with seven new stations — five of which have already been filled.

There's also a new area for nail services.

The Kanes have been in the salon business in Champaign for 36 years, starting with a campus salon in 1977. The salon moved downtown 18 years ago.

Speaking of salons ...

Just Be Salon recently opened at 403 S. Mattis Ave., C, in the Round Barn Centre.

The salon, owned by Danny Pierce, uses Redken and Pureology Serious Colour Care products.

Its phone number is 607-5653.
