More volunteers needed for marathon

CHAMPAIGN — Organizers for the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon said they still need more volunteers for this weekend's event.

Illinois Marathon director Jan Seeley said the series of races needs eight volunteers to work along the course on Friday and another 50 volunteers to do course work on Saturday.

"The 50 volunteers include some reserves to take the place of people who don't show up," Seeley said.

"The volunteers help ensure the safety of the runners. We will do online training for them, so they will know exactly what to do."

Seeley said a total of 3,500 people will be serving as volunteers this weekend.

Persons interested in volunteering can go to the race's website: http://illinoismarathon.com/

People who don't have Internet access can call the race hotline at 402-3159 to sign up as a volunteer.

"We appreciate all the people who volunteer for us," Seeley said. "We couldn't put on the race without them."
