Man wards off attempted robbery

CHAMPAIGN — Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery early Monday morning outside a Champaign convenience store.

According to a police report, a 74-year-old Bonfield, Ill., man pulled his semi-trailer into the Mobil Super Pantry, 1511 N. Prospect Ave., C, at 2:45 a.m. Sunday before driving to Kankakee to make a delivery.

The man said he went inside the store to make a purchase and had just left the store when another man jumped out from between the trailer and the cab of the truck while holding a gun.

When the truck driver grabbed the gun, the other man swung at him several times, failing to make contact.

The would-be robber then ran away from the convenience store and was last seen headed west.

Police described the would-be robber as a 20-year-old black man. He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall with a skinny build and was wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket with blue jeans.

A 74 year old man grabs a 20 year old thug's gun; and makes him run away.  Good for the senior.  Still driving truck also.

Good for him.  Us old people are tired of being pushed around.  You want some money, go get a job.
