Five injured in Interstate 57 rollovers

PAXTON — Five people were sent to the hospital when two cars collided and rolled over on Interstate 57 several miles south of Paxton on Sunday afternoon.

According to an Illinois State Police report, Lavette Montgomery, 32, of Champaign was heading south around 2:30 p.m., when the sport utility vehicle she was driving sideswiped a pickup truck in the lane next to hers.

Both cars rolled over and came to a rest in the median. Two girls, ages 13 and 11, were in the car with Montgomery. A 50-year-old Tolono woman and a 53-year-old Bethany woman were in the other vehicle.

All five were taken by ambulance to Carle Foundation Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Montgomery was issued a ticket for improper lane usage, according to the report.
