Teen accused of stealing purse
URBANA — A Champaign teen who allegedly robbed a woman of her purse Sunday night is due back in court in June.
Jamarri Walker , 17, who listed an address in the 700 block of South Mattis Avenue, was arraigned Monday on the Class 2 felony charge.
According to a Champaign police report, just before 9 p.m. Sunday, a woman was leaving the Little Caesars Pizza at 1211 S. Mattis Ave., C, when she noticed a young man standing outside. As she walked to her car, she felt someone tugging hard at her purse, which she had on her shoulder.
She noted that the person pulling on her purse was the same one she had seen outside the store. He pulled her 10 to 15 feet across the parking lot until the strap broke, then ran away with the purse, the report said.
Walker was found nearby and matched the physical description of the person who had stolen the purse. He admitted he had just come from Little Caesars but claimed he had watched as a friend stole the lady's purse.
The victim, a 19-year-old Champaign woman, identified Walker as the man who had taken her purse.
Walker remained jailed Tuesday in lieu of $25,000 bond. He's due back in court June 18.
