Man sentenced to prison in robbery

URBANA — A Chicago man who admitted robbing a man over cannabis has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd agreed to recommend Kamar Hall, 17, for the Department of Corrections' boot camp program.

Hall admitted that on Jan. 23, he robbed a man of his wallet at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of North Lincoln Avenue, Urbana. A more serious charge of armed robbery was dismissed.

Urbana police said Hall was at the apartment complex visiting Malik Logan, 20. Logan was charged with two counts of unlawful use of weapons after police found two guns in his apartment following the robbery.

Police believed Logan had set up the meeting between Hall and the robbery victim so that Hall could obtain cannabis.

The weapons charges against Hall were dismissed in March when he pleaded guilty in an unrelated theft case for a sentence of 30 months of probation.
