Police seek information on driver who may have followed child

Editor's note: Police talked with the driver of the vehicle and determined no suspicious activity took place.

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign County sheriff's office wants help identifying a person driving a brightly colored pickup truck who appeared to be following a child after school Wednesday.

Lt. Ed Ogle said about 2:30 p.m., a "neon yellow" pickup truck approached an 8-year-old girl in the area of Melrose Drive and Bedford Lane, which is about two blocks south of Windsor Road, and appeared to be following her.

There was no conversation between the driver and the child. She went home. It wasn't until about 8 p.m. that the girl's parents reported the incident to the sheriff's office, Ogle said.

The driver was described as a white male between the ages of 30 and 35 with mid-length white hair.

The sheriff's office wants to talk to the man. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 384-1213.
