Police: Vehicle determined not suspicious

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign County sheriff's deputies said what was thought to be a suspicious vehicle near a grade-school child Wednesday afternoon was not.

Lt. Ed Ogle said deputies spoke with the man in the neon yellow pickup truck seen near Melrose Drive and Bedford Lane in Champaign about 2:30 p.m. and learned he is self employed in the lawn care business.

He was merely getting out of his truck, which was pulling a trailer with lawn mowers, at an address on Bedford.

The man told deputies he saw the child and she ran away. He did not speak to her, Ogle said.

Ogle said the man has no prior arrests or police contacts.
