Nominations sought for WWII veterans to take flights

RANTOUL — The public is asked to nominate military veterans to receive free rides in a World War II-era Stearman plane on Memorial Day, May 27.

Pilot Darryl Fisher of Ageless Aviation Dreams will provide 10 flights. He will select four veterans to receive rides, and the Rantoul veterans' memorial committee will select the other six.

The committee is asking for a 30- to 50-word nomination letter explaining why the veteran deserves the opportunity.

Corporate or individual sponsors are also being sought for the event.

All sponsor donations will go directly to the fund for construction of the veterans' memorial in Rantoul.

Nominations should be sent to Jerry Wiese, Rantoul regional memorial committee, 313 Deerfield Drive, Rantoul, IL 61866 or j.wiese@mchsi.com.

Donations to the veterans' memorial dream flight may be sent to Regional Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 631, Rantoul, IL 61866.

Questions may be directed to Jim Cheek, veterans' memorial chairman, at 714-1352.
