Three people arrested in connection with shooting

CHAMPAIGN — Police have arrested three people in connection with a shooting late Monday night in Champaign.

Nobody was reported hurt, and police said they have not found any victims.

"It appears this may be a random act," said Champaign police Lt. Robert Rea.

Champaign police said they arrested Shaundrell Dewayne Brown, 18, who listed an address in the 1500 block of Honeysuckle Lane, Champaign, for mob action; Jonathan E. Brumfield, 23, who listed an address in the 600 block of East Bradley Avenue, Champaign, for mob action and unlawful possession of a weapon; and Devin Andrew Lindsey, of the 600 block of Willow Pond Road, Rantoul, for mob action.

They are expected to be formally charged on Wednesday.

According to a police report, shots were fired from a red sport utility vehicle in the 1300 block of North Champaign Street at about 11 p.m. Monday.

Police saw the SUV leaving the area and followed it to the 400 block of Louisiana Avenue. Police saw Brumfield entering a home and found Brown and Lindsey in the back yard.

Police contacted the residents of the home and safely got them out of the house. Police found Brumfield and a handgun inside the house and arrested him.

Officers arrested Brown and Lindsey in the back yard.

Police said they also found a spent shell casing inside the SUV.

Police said all three men were arrested for mob action under the theory that the shooting from the SUV took place as a group.

Time to lock Brumfield up for good.   How many times can a convicted felon and sex offender get caught with a gun, or as accessory to murder, and simply walk away?  Throw this scumbag away!
