Three arrested in Rantoul break-in

RANTOUL — Three men who police say forced their way into a Rantoul apartment and fought with people inside were arrested early Friday.

Rantoul police Sgt. Justin Bouse said Keith K. Campbell, 21, who listed an address in the 800 block of Oakcrest Drive, Champaign, and Cedric Grant, 22, and Lamont Taylor-Gwin, 22, both of the 300 block of Kerr Avenue, Urbana, were arrested about 2:45 a.m. Friday on a preliminary charge of home invasion.

Bouse said minutes before that, three, or possibly four, people broke through a sliding glass door to an apartment in the 1500 block of Hobson Drive where two men and two women were present.

Bouse said once inside, the intruders got into a physical fight with two of the people there. Those people were treated by paramedics at the scene.

The intruders took cellphones and a video game console as they ran from the apartment, Bouse said.

Police were called right away and stopped a car about a block away. Four people got out of the car and ran, but Campbell, Grant and Taylor-Gwin were quickly caught. The people at the apartment identified them as the intruders, resulting in their arrests.

Bouse said the men were expected to make their first court appearance on Saturday.

I used to live in the 1500 block of Hobson in the mid-90's, and one of the best days of my life was moving out of there.....
