Bement, Cerro Gordo school boards to meet together

CERRO GORDO — There are no school consolidation talks under way for Bement and Cerro Gordo, but both school boards will hear what re-organization options are available at a joint meeting Wednesday night in Cerro Gordo.

The session begins at 6 p.m. in the Cerro Gordo band room, and is open to the public.

A representative from the Illinois State Board of Education will be on hand to outline reorganziation options, which include annexation, consolidation and cooperative high school districts.

"It's mostly educational for both boards, to learn what reorganization is, what options there are, then also review what we've been doing together and what we can do more of cooperatively," said Bement Superintendent Daniel Brue at a school board meeting this week.

The two districts already co-op several sports and are looking to collaborate academically more in the future. Brue said it did not mean the districts were heading toward a merger.

"We just need to look at all the options to see what's best for the kids," he added.
