Fisher inducts Hofferth into hall of fame

FISHER — He worked at Walmart in Rantoul ("the old Walmart"). At another job, he was a parking attendant.

Life wasn't always so glamorous for Michael Hofferth. He had his trials like everyone else, but that didn't stop him from setting goals.

Hofferth has gone on to bigger things. He's served as a production manager for "American Idol" and is currently supervising producer for the TV series "The X-Factor."

And he's a 1996 graduate of Fisher High School.

Hofferth was inducted into the Fisher High School Hall of Fame in a ceremony recently.

The day before, he took quesetions from students at the high school.

Yes, he has worked with Justin Bieber.

The most favorite person he has met was the late Michael Jackson.

His favorite color? Blue.

His favorite singer? Carrie Underwood.

And he still loves to play basketball.

Hofferth said he struggled in school. It didn't start well for him there. After his first day of school, he told his mother he didn't want to go back. The milk was too warm

So, she went to school to see if he could drink water instead. There was no bottled water then, he told the students, so he had to drink cold water from the fountain.

He urged students to set goals.

"Write it down, what you want to do in life and check it periodically," Hofferth said.

Hofferth has held a number of jobs, including as an extra in various productions.

After graduating from Fisher High, he headed to Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., where he earned a bachelor's degree in advertising with an emphasis in business administration in 2000.

While at Pepperdine, he became involved in an online advertising and product integration forum. He said it helped him to develop the skills to turn a start-up company into a profitable one.

Hofferth has worked in conjunction with FOX, CBS, ABC/Touchstone Television, NBC, WB, Turner Broadcasting System, VH-1, CMT, Nickelodeon and DIRECTV.

He started Kombine Media Inc. in 2007.

The Fisher grad said the name of the company has two meanings — the first alluding to his roots growing up in Fisher, and the second stemming from having the foresight to acknowledge the malleability of the industry due to technological advancements.

Kombine Media Inc. produces all traditional forms of video production, live television, brand integration, concert tours, music videos, electronic press kits, Web content and marketing and advertising campaigns.
