Tree down causes Rantoul power outage

RANTOUL — Power has recently been restored to much of the village of Rantoul after a tree fell on a transmission line Saturday afternoon.

Rantoul Fire Chief Ken Waters said about half of the tree fell on a major transmission line in an alley near Clark and Sheldon streets in the north part of town about 2:25 p.m.

Rantoul Police Sgt. Marcus Beach said by 3:40 p.m., much of the power had been rerouted and public works crews were taking care of removing the tree.

In addition to being without electricity, the outage affected telephone service.
