Crash on Voorhees kills Danville man

UPDATED 6:45 p.m. Monday

DANVILLE — Danville police and the Vermilion County coroner’s office continue to investigate a collision on East Voorhees Street that killed a Danville area man and injured an Indiana man Monday afternoon.

Aaron M. Bryant, 22, of Danville was declared dead at the scene at 1:39 p.m., according to a press release from Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson.

The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. on East Voorhees at a sharp curve, just west of the Second Church of Christ, 3350 E. Voorhees St.

According to Johnson, Mr. Bryant was traveling eastbound when he drifted into the westbound lane and crashed into a westbound pickup truck.

Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said both men were the sole occupants of their vehicles. Thomason said the Indiana man, whose name had not been released Tuesday evening, was taken to a Danville hospital.

The accident closed East Voorhees Street for several hours. Thomason said semitrailer truck and other traffic had to be rerouted through the city while officials worked to remove the vehicles and conduct their investigation.

East Voorhees Street turns into Lynch Road, and semitractor trailers and other trucks use the road to access businesses on East Voorhees Street from Interstate 74.

An autopsy is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday.
