Atwood-Hammond youth baseball alleges discrimination in name change request
A local youth baseball organization which was asked to stop using the name "little league" is asking that other youth baseball leagues be told to do the same.
Atwood-Hammond had been using "little league" as a part of its name. But since it was not a chartered member of Little League International, that agency requested that Atwood-Hammond discontinue the use of the name.
League Commissioner Steve McClain said a response letter was mailed on Wednesday morning to Little League International. McClain said he has no problem changing the name but feels his league was singled out because of its fundraiser to raffle off an AR-15 rifle.
McClain also said he believes that there is widespread use of the name by other youth baseball organizations. He said the name of his league is being changed to Atwood-Hammond Youth Baseball.
