Comments on jail plan accepted through Friday

URBANA — Champaign County and the director of the firm conducting a review of the county's criminal justice system will accept written comments on the plan through Friday.

Alan Kalmanoff of the Berkeley, Calif.-based Institute of Law and Policy Planning is completing a final report with an executive summary and an action plan that he expects to give to the county board by the end of May. The report is supposed to provide the county with a plan to modernize and streamline its criminal justice system.

"This will significantly increase savings and give Champaign more control over its budget," Kalmanoff promised in his draft report last month.

Anyone with written comments on the draft report, which is available for viewing on the county's website (http://www.co.champaign.il.us/) should provide them via e-mail to one of the following contacts:

— Deb Busey, county administrator at dbusey@co.champaign.il.us

— Carol Ammons, operations director UC-IMC at carolammons@gmail.com

— Alan Kalmanoff, executive director of ILPP at akalmanoff@ilpp.

For those who have been following this issue, the Champaigh County Community Justice TF will be meeting this evening. The time and place are Brookens, the Putnum Room, at 6 P. Public participation, as usual, is at the topic of the agenda. The TF is beginning to wrap up their work so this is an excellent opportunity for input to the TF and thus the final report.
