Fatal shooting reported in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN - Police are searching for the person or persons who shot and killed a person in west Champaign on Tuesday night.

Police were called to the area of Country Brook Apartments in the 2600 block of West Springfield Avenue at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday.

There, they found someone who had been shot multiple times, who was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. The victim was pronounced dead by the Champaign County coroner, who has yet to release a name.

A Champaign police report said the victim was a 24-year-old man.

Witnesses told police they heard several gunshots in the area of the apartment complex. They also reported seeing two men running across Springfield Avenue from Country Brook after the gunshots.

No arrests have been made, and police are seeking information from the public. Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign police at 351-4545 or Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS (373-8477). I believe the main in the older story died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Not the same.
