UI symbol survey results released

UI symbol survey results released

After a long delay, the results of a student survey on a new University of Illinois symbol have been released.  And they show that many students don't want that.

The survey from student group Campus Spirit Revival saw people submit art entries for a new symbol.  Then the student body voted on those entries.  According to the Campus Spirit Revival Facebook page, one person could vote for multiple entries.

But the top two vote-getters were not entries at all.  Rather, they were votes for "no change" or to consider other options.  The top symbol choice was an eagle, followed by a soldier and a chef.

Meanwhile, a UI spokesperson said there are no plans at this time to come up with a new symbol for the university.

Well that pretty much sums it up. It's back to the Chief or nobody cares. Wonder if Phyllis would have voted for the chef.

AD Thomas as negotiated a deal with GEICO insurance for the naming rights....for a paltry 33 Million, the mascot of Illinois will now be the GeKo lizard.

I am still intrigued with the Chef mascot.  Sure the Eagle, and the Soldier are patriotic just like Memorial Stadium; but a Chef?  It is just a Chief without an "I".  Some people have a sense of humor unless the symbol art was done at Bevier Hall.

Hey!  That is another symbol possibility!  The mammal was native to Illinois.  Michigan has a wolverine; Minnesota has a gopher; and Wisconsin has a badger.

Sid, you're cracking me up!  I love it when you're funny!  That's a really good one.
