Piatt County Board hires new nursing home director

MONTICELLO — For the first time in 13 years, the Piatt County Nursing Home will have a new executive director, beginning June 3.

At a special county board meeting this week, Gary Coulter of Mount Zion was hired to replace Karla Bradley, who said she is resigning to "make a change and look at other opportunities." She has worked at the facility for 25 years, the last 13 as executive director.

"I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the nursing home and its network of services," said Bradley of her work at local assisted living-facilities as well as working with agencies such as Faith in Action and Piatt County Services for Seniors.

Board member Kathleen Piatt said Coulter has over 20 years of experience in nursing home administration, most recently at the Asta Care Center in Colfax. His hiring is contingent upon a successful background check and physical exam.

Bradley said she would stay through the transition to the new director.

Randy Keith had expressed concern last week about the process used to hire the new executive director but said this week he has "deep respect for the (nursing home) committee. This position is important to the people of Piatt County, and this person needs our support."
