URBANA — Urbana Park District officials say their target date to open the new Crystal Lake Pool is June 20.
But the exact date could be sooner or later, depending on the weather, according to park district spokeswoman Dana Mancuso.
"As soon as we are able to swim, we will be open," Mancuso said on Monday.
Mancuso said construction crews are working on installing the slide, and a climbing wall has not been delivered.
"The official opening celebration has been set for 10:30 a.m. June 29, but we are planning for a soft opening before then," Mancuso said.
"We are at the mercy of Mother Nature. If we have lots of rain, that's not good for doing things like pouring concrete and laying tile."
As more construction work is completed, Mancuso said, the district will be in a better position to set an exact date.
"At this point, we're not sure what might happen with the weather," she said.
The $9.1 million aquatic center is being built on the same site as the old Crystal Lake Pool in north Urbana.
The pool was originally set to open on June 1, but wet weather in April pushed the date back.
