Georgetown mayor has list of tasks ahead
GEORGETOWN — Mayor Kay Sanders says she has some pressing items on her "to-do" list and assured residents that she is working on them.
Among the items were finalizing a 2013-14 budget for the city, completing an audit of the city's financial books, making committee appointments, holding a citywide cleanup, and appointing someone to fill the Ward 3 seat on the city council that she vacated on May 6 when she became mayor.
Sanders told three dozen people at the Georgetown City Council meeting that the city's new fiscal year started on May 1, and that getting a 2013-14 budget in place was important. She said city officials were working to close out the 2012-13 financial books, and that she hoped to have a new budget in place by early June.
"We don't have a budget because the mayor before me didn't get it finished," Sanders said.
Former Mayor Dennis Lucas, who was present at the meeting, took issue with that statement and said he stopped working on the 2013-14 budget because Sanders said she wanted to complete it.
