No injuries reported in Interstate 74 crash

UPDATED 9:30 p.m. Wednesday

URBANA — Nobody was injured in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday east of Urbana.

According to a state police report, Terri L. Jones, 44, of Georgetown and Joshua P. Kietzman, 35, of St. Joseph were both driving cars east on Interstate 74 near milepost 189 (4 miles east of the University Avenue exit) when they approached a semitrailer truck that was on the right shoulder of the highway at 6:08 p.m. Wednesday.

The truck, driven by Keith L. Callahan, 52, of Redkey, Ind., had stopped due to a flat tire about an hour earlier, and the truck driver had placed safety triangles behind his vehicle.

According to the police report, witnesses said Jones had appeared to be trying to merge into the left hand lane before veering onto the right shoulder and into the back of the truck, crashing into it.

Kietzman was following behind, and his vehicle was hit by debris caused by Jones’ vehicle hitting Callahan’s vehicle.

Police ticketed Jones for improper lane usage.
