Driver ticketed for DUI in two-truck collision

ST. JOSEPH — Three people were taken to an Urbana hospital on Monday evening following a head-on collision of two pickup trucks north of St. Joseph.

Brandon Roberts, 23, of the 1100 block of Eastview Drive, Rantoul, was ticketed for driving under the influence and improper lane usage following the crash, which happened just after 9 p.m.

Champaign County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Coile said Roberts was northbound on County Road 2200 E near Shore Drive on the north side of St. Joseph when his pickup truck crossed the center line and hit another pickup truck driven south by Amanda Yates, 37, of the 1700 block of Layman Lane, St. Joseph.

Coile said both drivers had to be cut from their vehicles, which were heavily damaged.

Roberts was taken by helicopter to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he remained Wednesday in stable condition. Yates was also listed in stable condition.

A child in Yates’ truck, Kylie E. Greer, 8, was treated and released from Carle.

Coile said deputies learned that Roberts’ blood-alcohol level was 0.29 percent — more than three times the limit for an Illinois motorist to be presumed intoxicated.

Should the News Gazette be printing the name of a child victim?
