Burglars hit east Urbana home

URBANA — Burglars made off with several thousand dollars worth of items from an east Urbana home during the day Tuesday.

Sgt. Dan Coile said the resident of the 600 block of South Dodson Drive returned home just after 6 p.m. and noticed a sliding glass door open and her flat-screen television missing.

She got out of the house and called police.

Deputies discovered the house had been ransacked and entry was likely made through a window.

Besides the television, also stolen were a one-carat diamond ring, diamond earrings, a hard drive, a Mac Power Book, an iPad, a PlayStation, a silver 9 mm Ruger, four pairs of jeans, wine and cash.

The total loss was estimated at $5,500.

A neighbor told deputies he saw a red PT Cruiser at a vacant home next door and two men carrying a flat screen television who appeared to be in a hurry. He did not call police, Coile said.

Coile said investigators found evidence that could help solve the crime. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 384-1213 or Crimestoppers at 373-8477.

Information may also be sent anonymously online at http://www.373tips.com or by cellphone text message by sending CCTIP plus the information to CRIMES (274637).
