Harrington honored with street name

The man who helped make The High School of Saint Thomas More a reality has been honored outside that school.

Champaign city officials and others gathered on Thursday to dedicate Saber Drive between Mattis Avenue and Olympian Drive as Honorary Tom Harrington Senior Way.

Harrington, who passed away last year, was the lead fundraiser for the building of Saint Thomas More, as well as having a career as a public defender and land developer.

Harrington's son, Tom Harrington Jr., said his dad never was one to hog the spotlight, but said he'd appreciate the honor.

Harrington Junior also said it's fitting that the honorary street is within view of Interstate Research Park because his dad was developing that site in the final months of his life.
