Man charged with home invasion
CHAMPAIGN - A Champaign man has been charged with home invasion and battery after allegedly forcing his way into a woman's home early Thursday.
Jovonie Jackson, 24, who listed an address in the 600 block of Crescent Drive, was arrested not long after a 2 a.m. incident in the 1500 block of North Mattis Avenue, Champaign.
Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said Jackson showed up at the home of a woman who had known him just a short time, asking to be invited in. She told him she had company and refused to let him in. He left but returned a short time later.
Dunn said when the woman opened the door a second time, Jackson allegedly pushed her and rushed in toward the woman's 22-year-old male visitor, getting into a fight with him. The woman tried to intervene and another woman there threatened to call 911, prompting Jackson to leave.
Police found him near Paula Drive and Honeysuckle Lane and arrested him for home invasion and battery.
The 22-year-old man in the house reported getting scratched in the fracas.
If convicted of home invasion, Jackson faces six to 30 years in prison.
