Police find man wanted for questioning in robberies
PAXTON — Local police Friday found a man in Paxton who was wanted for questioning in connection with two May robberies in Champaign.
A release from Rantoul police said Rantoul and Champaign police detectives, with help from the U.S. Marshal's Service, found Michael Mackey as he was getting out of a car at the Paxton Motel at 6 p.m.
He tried to run but was shot with a Taser and taken to the Ford County Jail in Paxton.
Mackey, 41, whose last known address was in the 400 block of East Grove Street in Rantoul, is on parole for a 2007 aggravated robbery conviction from Winnebago County and was wanted by parole authorities.
Champaign police also wanted to talk to him about the armed robbery of an employee of the Gentry Square apartment complex at 1712 Gentry Square Lane and the robbery of a woman whose purse was snatched in the parking lot of the Extended Stay Hotel, 610 W. Marketview Drive.
Both those robberies occurred the afternoon of May 18 within about two hours of each other.
Mackey also has a pending burglary case in Champaign County alleging he broke into a car in the 300 block of East Daniel Street in Champaign and stole a laptop computer and other electronic devices on Nov. 22.
Department of Corrections records show Mackey has other convictions for burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of a controlled substance.
