Free orthopedic exams offered for children

URBANA — Free orthopedic exams will be offered to kids this month by the Elks organization in Champaign-Urbana and Danville.

Assessments will be available by appointment only from 8:30-10:30 a.m. June 11 in the office of Dr. James McKechnie. His office is located at Presence Covenant Medical Center's medical office building, 1405 W. Park St., U, Suite 306.

Referrals aren't necessary, but doctor and school nurses are welcome to refer patients to this clinic, according to the Elks.

The clinic being offered by Champaign-Urbana Elks 2497 and Danville Elks 332 lodges, in cooperation with the Illinois Elks Children's Care Corp.

To make an appointment, call 1-800-272-0074 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Children with feet pointing in or out, or who are complaining of back, knee, leg or ankle pain or who have back curvature can be seen at the clinic. Parents may also want to have their children evaluated for bone and joint development.

There won't be any charge for the diagnostic services, and the Elks will have some financial assistance available for children who need treatment and specialty equipment if their families can't afford it, according to the Elks.
