No injuries in fire at Guardian West plant

URBANA — Nobody was injured in a fire late Monday afternoon at an Urbana plant.

According to a fire department report, firefighters were called to Guardian West, 601 Guardian Drive, at 5:36 p.m.

Firefighters from Champaign assisted at the scene.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the roof of the building through a vent due to a fire in a paint booth.

At least 100 people were evacuated from the building, and nobody was hurt, according to the report.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 5:56 p.m., but firefighters remained at the scene Monday night to investigate the cause.

Firefighters said it was too early to get a dollar estimate on damage from the fire.
