Celebration to honor Moore

URBANA — "I Lived My Way," a celebration of the life of Professor A. Doyle Moore, will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Japan House, 2000 S. Lincoln Ave.

People are encouraged to send memories and or photos of Mr. Moore to japanhouse@illinois.edu. A compilation of the memories will be made available next year on the one-year anniversary of his passing.

Mr. Moore, an emeritus professor in the University of Illinois School of Art + Design, died May 13 at his home in Champaign. He had many interests, among them Japanese aesthetics. As chief administrator of the Chado Urasenke Takokai Urbana-Champaign Association, he gave instruction in tea ceremony at Japan House.

After he became more sedentary, he began making kogo —small ceramic incense containers used in the tea ceremony. He was 82 when he died. Here is a link to his obituary.
