Fire at Urbana home intentionally set

URBANA — Champaign County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who is believed to have set a fire at a mobile home in northeast Urbana early Wednesday.

Sgt. Dan Coile said about 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, a man living in the Country View Estates mobile home park, 1604 E. Olympian Road, saw fire on a deck at a neighboring mobile home. When he went outside to check, he saw a young man in a white T-shirt running from the area and heard a vehicle start up.

The man woke park owners Janice and Robert Waller, who called 911. Robert Waller then used a garden hose to put out the fire before it got out of control, Coile said.

Coile said Carroll Fire Protection District firefighters and deputies quickly determined that the fire was intentionally set. Coile said there was a strong smell of gasoline on the deck. There were burn marks on the back door and the wooden deck was charred, he said, estimating damage at $200.

The people who live in the home were not there when the fire was started.
