Work planned on pavilions in Catlin

CATLIN — Village board members discussed the pavilions in both village parks this week and are planning to do work on both of them.

The pavilion in Catlin Park will receive halogen lights that will automatically activate at night, and some deteriorating wooden support posts on the pavilion in Butler Branch Park located north of the village library will be repaired or replaced.

Mayor James Robinson said that the pavilion at Catlin Park already has lights in it that can be activated with a switch, but that a recent incident when the pavilion was vandalized at night got the board members to consider automatic lights to improve visibility.

"We are hoping that this will avert the problems," Robinson said.

While Catlin Park has basketball courts and playground equipment, the Butler Branch Park is primitive.

The treated, wooden posts supporting the pavilion roof there have been damaged by water over the years and are being targeted by insects. Robinson said the village wanted either to repair the damaged portions of the posts, or replace them if necessary.
