Danville school talks to resume Saturday

DANVILLE — Negotiators for the Danville school district and its largest bargaining unit will resume contract talks with the help of a federal mediator on Saturday.

Superintendent Mark Denman said the two sides are scheduled to meet in a closed session starting at 9 a.m. at the Jackson Building, 516 N. Jackson St.

Denman said the bargaining session follows a productive June 1 session with the mediator, which lasted 15 hours.

"We made a lot of progress. A large number of language items are complete," he said.

This weekend, the two sides will work on financial items including compensation, health insurance and the length of the school day.

"We hope to continue making progress this Saturday," Denman said.

The association represents just under 600 teachers, teaching assistants, secretaries and learning resource clerks. Members have been working under their old two-year contract, which expired on June 30.
