Two cars hit by gunfire in Champaign
CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are investigating damage to two cars hit by gunfire in the north central part of the city.
About 1:15 p.m. Friday, police went to the area of Mimosa and Alagna drives, about three blocks southwest of the intersection of Bradley and Prospect avenues, where two cars were hit with gunfire.
Chief Deputy Troy Daniels said police found a vehicle in the 1100 block of Mimosa Drive and a second car in the 900 block of Ada that had been damaged by gunfire.
Daniels said the second vehicle had been in the 1100 block of Mimosa during the incident and was then driven to the 900 block of Ada.
“We have no report of injuries,” he said.
Not long after the shooting, police detained two men who were in the 1200 block of Mimosa. The men were not together. One ran from police but was caught. The other did not resist arrest.
Both were taken to the police department for questioning and later released.
Daniels said the two men, who were not identified, will not face charges at this time.
He said police are continuing their investigation.
