Fatal accident south of Clinton Saturday

CLINTON — A Heyworth man was killed and a Decatur woman injured in a two-vehicle accident south of Clinton Saturday morning.

Illinois State Police at Pontiac said the collision between a car and a pickup truck   happened about 8 a.m. on U.S. 51 just south of Clinton.

Police said Gary W. Bonds was driving his car south when he left the road to the right and traveled into an unplanted field. After traveling in the field a short distance, the car veered back into the east ditch, crossed the southbound lanes, then went through the center median and hit a northbound pickup truck head-on.

The driver of the truck, Judith Pryczynski, 57, was airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where she was listed in fair condition Saturday night. She was issued a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.

DeWitt County Coroner Randall Rice said Mr. Bonds died at 8:12 a.m. at the Dr. John Warner Hospital in Clinton.
