Work to begin Monday on stretch of Interstate 57

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that resurfacing work is supposed to start Monday on just over 5 miles of northbound Interstate 57 in Champaign County.

The project runs from just south of Olympian Drive in Champaign to 2 miles south of Thomasboro. During construction, one lane of traffic will remain open.

The road is slated to be ground down to rubble and resurfaced with asphalt mix. The overall project is expected to be complete by Halloween, weather permitting.

The contractor for the $8,836,464 project is Open Road Paving Co. LLC.
